Brief History

Padjadjaran University was founded on the initiative of community leaders in West Java who want a college where young men and women in West Java to obtain higher education in preparing future leaders.

After a series of processes, on 11 September 1957, Padjadjaran University was officially established by Government Regulation no. 37 in 1957, and inaugurated by President Soekarno on September 24, 1957.

At the beginning of the Unpad has 4 faculties, and now has grown to 16 faculty and graduate programs. Programs offered include a doctoral degree Unpad (S3) consists of 9 courses, the Master degree (S2) consists of 19 programs of study, program specialist 2, 5 professional programs, and programs strata I (S1) consists of 44 courses, Diploma Programs III (D3) consists of 32 courses and Diploma Program IV (D4) consists of 1 course. Unpad also has a Research Institute and Corporate Citizenship (LPPM) as a container for managing research activities and community service.

"Being a University of Excellence in World Class Education Organization".

Mission:

1. Education (teaching, research, and development of science and community service), which is able to meet the demands of the user community higher education services.
2. Higher education internationally competitive and relevant to service user demands for education in promoting intellectual development and social welfare.
3. Conducting a professional education management and accountability to improve the image of higher education.
4. Formed human being who respects the academic grandeur of local culture, and national culture in the world of cultural diversity.

Destination Unpad:

1. Distribution improvements and expansion of the public in Gaining access to higher education.
2. Achieved excellence institutions and courses in the development of science and art.
3. Building an academic climate that is conducive for the holding of teaching, research, and community services.
4. The development and integration of utilization of information technology in improving quality of service in accordance with public demand.
5. The development of cooperation with various parties education.
6. The development of accountable governance and in accordance with the legislation.
7. Arrange financial management systems, integrated and independent teraihnya financial resources for education stability.
8. The development of superior self-image based on noble traditions and excellence of performance
9. Establishment of cultural centers with Unpad Sundanese cultural distinctiveness to achieve international competitiveness.

In addition, Padjadjaran University also has a pattern which becomes Main Scientific guidelines for the civitas academica in achieving the vision and mission, the Lord Justice and Development Environment in National Development.
