Education University of Indonesia was established on October 20, 1954 in Bandung, was inaugurated by the Minister of Education Teaching Mr. Muhammad Yamin. UPI main building debris originated from a villa called Villa Isola, a former building relics of the pre-World War II. This is where for the first time the youth got gemblengan teacher education at university level, as the realization of the Decree of the Minister of Education, Teaching and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia (No. 35 742 dated 1 September 1954 regarding the establishment PTPG / Higher Education Teachers).
At first PTPG headed by a Dean who oversees several departments or centers, namely:
Science Education
Physical Education Studies;
Indonesia Language and Literature;
English Language and Literature;
Cultural History;
Nature certainly;
Economics and Law of the State; and
Education Research Center.
In line with the Decree of the Minister of Education, Teaching and Culture No.. 40 718 / S at the time, which states that PTPG can sustain itself into the college or colleges within the university, then as the founding of the University of Padjadjaran (ubuntu), on 25 November 1958 PTPG be integrated into primary school by the name of Padjadjaran University Faculty of Teacher Training and Science Education (Guidance and Counseling).
To strengthen the procurement system of teachers and education personnel, a variety of courses that exist at the time, namely teacher education BI and B II, integrated into the Guidance and Counseling through the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 6 of 1961. Further Guidance and Counseling Guidance and Counseling developed into A and B. FKIP At the same time, the stand also the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG), which resulted in a dualism in teacher education institutions. Guidance and Counseling A / B and IPG FKIP in Bandung eventually became the Institute of Teacher Training and Education Bandung (Bandung IKIP).
IKIP Bandung at that time had had five faculties, namely Faculty of Education, Teacher Training Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Literature and Art Teacher Training, Teacher Training Faculty of the exact sciences, and the Teacher Training Faculty of Engineering Sciences. The need for teachers increasingly urgent, as well as the growing desire to improve and equalize the ability of the teachers. This encourages IKIP Bandung open extension, between the years 1967 1970 Bandung IKIP extension opened in almost all districts in West Java.

To improve the quality of teaching staff, in 1970 IKIP Bandung open the program through the establishment of the Institute of Post Doctoral Post Doctoral Education (LPPD) which manages the PPS Program S2 and S3. In 1976 LPPD renamed the Graduate School, in 1981 turned into the Graduate School and in 1991 became the Graduate School (PPS).
Structuring higher education programs conducted by the government to implement a multiprogram and multistrata, followed by opening IKIP Bandung Education Diploma Program. To improve the qualifications of primary school teachers to be graduates of D II, the academic year 1990 / 1991, held Teacher Education Program D II Elementary School. In addition to Earth Siliwangi held at Campus program is also held in the Program Implementation Unit (UPP) in some schools the former SPG diintregarasikan to IKIP. To improve teacher qualifications kindergarten or play group in 1996/1997 IKIP Bandung open PGTK II D program.
Along with government policy on higher education which provides the mandate extension for the Institute of Education Personnel (LPTKs) to be able to follow the changing demands and to anticipate all possibilities in the future, IKIP Bandung Indonesia University of Education was changed to the Presidential Decree No. 124 of 1999 dated October 7, 1999.
