Preparation establishment of the University of Lampung (Unila) has started since the 1960s. In 1961 formed the Faculty of Economics and Faculty of Law Faculty of the Branch was inaugurated as the University of Sriwijaya. Establishment of Faculty of Economics and Faculty of Law is a branch establishment Unila embryo. On 23 September 1965 published the Decree of Ministry of Higher Education and Science (PTIP) Number 195 Year 1965, that Unila formally separate from Sriwijaya University (Unsri) and then confirmed by Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Number 73 Year 1966 on April 6, 1966, Unila a State University.
Currently, Unila has 7 (seven) faculty. The total number of courses in the seven faculties are 70 courses, consisting of: 16 Program Diploma (D2 and D3), Graduate Program 46 (S1), Graduate Program 8 (S2) and 1 Professional Accounting Program (PPA). The development of majors and courses at the University of Lampung, since the academic year 2002 until 2007. Development of Diploma courses, Strata 1, graduate, and professional education program is a demand for local community needs as part of the progress in economic and regional autonomy, so that the number of students in the academic year 2007/2008 amounted to 25,415 people.
