Onset Sanata Dharma (1955 - 1958)
The idea to establish a Higher Education Teacher (onset) by Prof. Moh. Yamin, S.H. (Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia) in the 1950s was well received by Catholic priests, especially the Order of Societas Jesus (Society of Jesus is commonly abbreviated SJ).
At that time, the Order had opened B1 courses, including B1 Educate (Foundation De Brito) in Yogyakarta managed by Father H. Loeff, S.J. and B1 English (Loyola Foundation) in Semarang by Father WJ Van der Meulen, S.J. and Father H. Bastiaanase, S.J.
With the support of thr Congregatio de Propaganda Fide, then Father Kester, who was then serving as the Missionary Society of Jesus Superior combine these courses into a higher and onset of Sanata Dharma was born on October 20, 1955 and promulgated by the government on December 17, 1955.
At first onset Sanata Dharma has 4 departments, namely English, History, Science, and Science Teaching. The authorities pointed to the mission of the Society of Jesus Father Prof. Nicolaus Driyarkara, S.J. became Dean onset Sanata Dharma and Father H. Loeff as Vice Dean
The name "Sanata Dharma" was created by Father K. Looymans, S.J. who was then an officer in the Department of Education and Culture at the Office of the Church of Indonesia. "Sanata Dharma" actually read "Sanyata Dharma", which means "true worship" or "real service". The service and the service was aimed at the country and the church (Pro Patria et Eclessia).
Sanata Dharma Guidance and Counseling (1958 - 1965)
To conform with government regulations, in this case the Ministry of Education and Culture of change becomes FKIP onset, the onset of Sanata Dharma in November 1958 changed to Faculty of Teacher (Faculty of Science Teacher Education) Sanata Dharma and is part of the Catholic University of Indonesia branch Yogyakarta. During this FKIP Sanata Dharma managed to obtain the status of "comparable" with the country based on the Decree of the Minister of PTIP No.1 / 1961 on May 6, 1961 jo No. 77 / 1962 dated July 11, 1962. Although part of the Catholic University of Indonesia, the de facto FKIP Sanata Dharma stands alone.
Sanata Dharma (1965 - 1993)
To overcome the confusion between being part of the Catholic University of Indonesia Yogyakarta branch of the independence of Sanata Dharma Guidance and Counseling as an educational institution, Guidance and Counseling Dharma became Santa Sanata Dharma based on Ministerial Decree No. PTIP. 237 / B - exalted / U / 1965. This Decree entered into force on 1 September 1965.
In addition to implementing the Program of S1 (formerly the Bachelor and Graduate), University of Sanata Dharma also trusted the government to manage the Diploma Program I, II, and III for the Department of Mathematics, Physics, Indonesian, English, Social Science, and PMP. Various diploma program was closed in 1990 and subsequent dibika II PGSD Diploma programs (Elementary School Teacher Education)
Sanata Dharma University (1993 to present)
Finally, to meet the demands and needs of society and the advancement of age, on 20 April 1993 in accordance with the Education Minister Decree No. 46 / D / O / 1993, University of Sanata Dharma developed into Sanata Dharma or better known as CAD. With this development NZD expected not only to improve teacher education system and participate in the development of science and technology.
As a university, the university encouraged to expand its study programs. While maintaining teacher education by staying open FKIP (Faculty of Teacher Training and Education), the university opened new faculties. Sanata Dharma now has 8 faculties with 25 undergraduate study programs, 3 graduate programs, professional education program 1, and 3 certified courses.
Right now a lot of progress at the University of Sanata Dharma. Covering various aspects of their development, both physical facilities (buildings, laboratories, libraries, and other physical facilities), administration (information systems, management, agency / agencies / centers and their supporting units), improvement of academic, research, teaching, and service to the community.
